Event Description: On Sunday, February 26, 2017, the MTSU Concert Chorale and Middle Tennessee Choral Society will present a special tribute concert honoring the late Nelda Pope. The concert, “Our Love is Here to Stay—Choruses and Arias From Broadway to Opera,” is a fitting tribute to one whose love of the arts has made a permanent impact on the arts and culture of Murfreesboro and greater Middle Tennessee. Along with her husband George, Mrs. Pope was instrumental in the founding of Murfreesboro’s Center for the Arts. She appeared in numerous theatrical productions throughout Middle Tennessee and was often cast in the leading roles. Mrs. Pope was a past president of the Middle Tennessee Choral Society and was also active in numerous other local organizations. This concert will feature choruses and arias by Bernstein, Sondheim, Mozart, and Verdi as well as selections from Bizet’s Carmen. The concert will take place at 3:00 p.m. in Hinton Music Hall inside MTSU’s Wright Music Building. Tickets for the performance are $15 for general admission, $12.50 for senior citizens, and $10.00 for children 12 years and under.
