Event Description:
TENNESSEE KIDNEY FOUNDATION BRINGS THE LOVE YOUR KIDNEYS WALK TO MURFREESBORO MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (OCTOBER 12, 2017) – Tennessee Kidney Foundation (TKF) will host the inaugural Love your Kidneys Walk (the Walk) in Murfreesboro on Sat., November 18th at 9:00 a.m. to spread awareness of chronic kidney disease and raise funds for TKF programming in Rutherford County. The Walk will be held at the St. Thomas Rutherford campus and will cost $10 to participate. The Love Your Kidneys Walk is a fun, family-friendly event where dedicated walkers, volunteers, and sponsors raise money to support TKF. The Walk gives patients, family, friends, researchers, and healthcare providers the opportunity to support their fellow Tennesseans in their battle against kidney disease. All proceeds from the Walk will help provide prevention and education programs about kidney disease and kidney donation as well as direct support for those already affected by kidney disease in Rutherford County. More than 10,000 people in Tennessee have end stage renal disease and the number affected grows by 10% annually. The only treatment options for end stage renal disease are dialysis or transplant. Nearly 90% of people waiting for an organ donation in Tennessee - more than 2,600 – are waiting for a kidney. Educating the public about chronic kidney disease and living kidney donation is an important facet of TKF programs. “TKF is so lucky to have such a strong community of supporters in Murfreesboro and we can’t wait for the event! We are so excited to expand our existing reach and services to those in need in Rutherford County,” said Heather Powell, TKF’s chief executive officer. About the Tennessee Kidney Foundation The mission of the Tennessee Kidney Foundation (TKF) is to improve the health and wellbeing of Tennesseans affected by kidney disease through education, prevention, treatment, advocacy and promotion of organ donation. Currently, more than 10,000 individuals (more than 1 in 8 adults) live with chronic kidney disease and more than 2,600 individuals are waiting for a kidney transplant. TKF provides life-saving direct support and resources for thousands of patients as well as educational and prevention programming to both prevent the progression of kidney disease and educate the public about organ donation and transplantation.
