Event Description: CONTACT: Michael Shirley, Extension Agent 615-898-7710, mshirle1@utk.edu Second Annual 4-H 4K ANNOUNCED Unique race part of Adventures in Ag Day Murfreesboro, Tenn. (March 25, 2014) - The second annual 4-H 4K run/walk will take place on Saturday, April 12 at 8:30 A.M. Serving as a fundraiser for the Rutherford County 4-H Endowment Fund, the unique race features a combination road and cross-country course and will serve as the kick-off for the Adventures in Ag Day planned for the Rutherford County Extension office. The race is sponsored by Maximized Living Murfreesboro, fce Clubs of Rutherford County, and Animal Care Veterinary Hospital. “We are excited to offer local runners and our 4-H community an opportunity to enjoy one of the most unique courses in the Middle Tennessee area,” said Michael Shirley, Extension Agent and race director. “Last year’s participants commented that they really enjoyed the combination road and cross-country course, and they thought the unique distance was the perfect challenge.” Shirley explained that after starting on a portion of Agripark Dr., the 4-H 4K course will weave through the vineyards and orchards at the extension office after passing the pond and horse arena. “Part of the 4-H pledge is to commit your health to better living for your community. The 4-H 4K is an excellent way for our 4-H members to do just that,” Shirley said. “We were able to raise almost $3,000 last year for our local 4-H endowment, and that money will make a life-long positive impact on the youth of Rutherford County.” After the race, participants can enjoy the events associated with the Adventures in Agriculture Day. The day will feature interactive exhibits showcasing local providers as well as demonstrations of agricultural tools and techniques. There will also be a hayride tracking along much of the same course the runners will have run earlier. Runners can register on-line or by mail. Online registration is available at Active.com and race forms can be found at the Rutherford County Extension office.
